How exciting you're getting married

Wedding Photography Guide - what to expect on your wedding day

Your big day takes months, maybe years of planning and so it’s only natural that you should want every last detail to be captured. I have created this guild to help show the process of photographing your wedding day. Hope it helps.

Pre Wedding

Before your wedding I like to arrange a meeting to talk over all your wedding plans and and find out what you would like from your wedding photography as this will help me capture all your unique moments and details, preserving them forever, so you can revisit your wedding day time and time again.

I help you create a list of group photographs so on your wedding day you do not need to think about organising photos and can just enjoy your big day.

Also before your wedding day feel free to contact me whenever with any questions or if you want advice etc. – I have been to hundreds of weddings and am always happy to help.

Bridal Prep AKA getting ready

The Bridal prep is an exciting time, there is a real mixture of joy and nerves during the build up to the wedding. It is a great time to capture photographs of the bridal party getting ready and having fun, plus you get to record the magical moment when those closest see the bride ready in her dress for the first time. I also take photographs of all the detail such as the wedding dress, shoes, flowers, your perfume etc.

There is little to no posing during bridal prep as I normally find a corner to sit and capture everything as it happens focusing on the details, excitement and emotions.

Wedding Ceremony

I start by photographing the guests arriving, the groom and his groom’s men and the bride’s big entrance. During the ceremony I capture the events as they happen making sure to photograph the groom nervously waiting, the bridal party walking up the wedding aisle, your vows, first kiss and any happy tears. After the vows have been said you will need to sign the wedding register, this is when i will take a few posed photographs of you with your witnesses. Following your ceremony if required I will organise confetti shots, these are always fun and creates beautiful photos.

Group Photographs

Before your Group photographs I allow time for you to greet your guest and for them to congratulate you. This is a great time for me to capture plenty of candid/un posed pictures of everyone. We will already have created a wedding photo list and you can have as many or a little group photographs taken. I aim to capture these photographs as quickly and painlessly as possible. I am super organised and will take in to account any older guest or those who have issues with walking etc.

Couple portraits

This is often the part a lot of my couples worry about but I promise it is not as bad as you think. I keep it very relaxed I give gentle directions rather then over pose you so I can capture natural and beautiful couple portraits you will treasure. Couple Photo's will not take long, I am very aware on your wedding day you will want to enjoy your special day and not be long away from your guests etc. Couple portraits are normally taken at your wedding venue but can be taken at a local beauty spot.

Detail pictures at your venue

I will make sure to take lots of photographs of your wedding venue and reception room set up capturing the table lay out, decorations and all little details you have spent so long choosing.  This is normally the time your guests will enjoy welcome drinks and the prefect time for me to capture lots of natural photos of everyone enjoying the wedding day.

Mock cutting of your wedding cake

The mock cutting of your cake is taken away from your guests this allows me to take a nice picture of you with your wedding cake. The real cutting of the cake is normally cut just before the first dance and is a lovely moment to share with your guests.

Candid Photographs taken throughout your wedding day

Candid photography means taking un-posed photographs capturing people naturally. I spend a lot of time at the wedding taking this type of photograph.  In my option candid photos are the best way to capture real smiles, emotions and help tell the story of your wedding day.

Speeches & Reception

During the reception I mainly focus on capturing lots of lovely natural candid photographs. I will take a short break while everyone eats and then capture the wedding speeches. While the wedding speeches take place I will take photographs of the people talking and the guest reactions – this often means lots of laughter and happy tears.

First Dance

I will photograph the start of the evening reception this allows me to capture some of the evening guests and everyone enjoying the celebrations.  I photograph the first dance and the first few dances afterward to ensure I get some fun, party pictures.

Delivery of your USB / Album

After your wedding I will be busy editing all your wedding photographs. I understand you will be excited to see your photographs and offer an optional wedding taster. The taster will be a few pictures posted online and be ready a few days after your wedding day.

Once edited all your photographs will be given to you in colour and Black & white on a USB. You will also receive personal copyright use, meaning you can print your wedding photos and share them with friends and family etc.

Once you receive your USB you can pick the photographs you would like to be in your wedding album. I use Graphi Studio as they create beautiful handmade high quality wedding albums in a range of covers such as luxury leather, acrylic and metal etc. Your wedding album is guaranteed to last a lifetime and will become a treasured family heirloom.
